The MCS News Flash online application was designed and developed by Maximum Value Programming in 2011. Featuring an extensive range of original, custom-built communication tools, MVP created two separate versions: one optimized for desktops, laptops, and tablet computers, and another designed specifically for smartphones. The purpose of the app was to monitor news in real time about a newly developed drug, analyze public reception within the industry, and communicate this with MCS's pharmaceutical clients. MVP accomplished the initial build-out on an aggressively accelerated timeframe of approximately 3 weeks to ensure that the tool would be ready for an upcoming American Heart Association 2011 Scientific Sessions convention, with more extensive features being added in the subsequent months.
The program gives users the ability to upload news articles and social media postings that are relevant to the launch of new pharmaceuticals, with all postings organized chronologically and identified by author and outlet. Furthermore, each posting can be classified according to 10 dynamically defined attributes to facilitate broader analyses of the overall media reactions to newly introduced pharmaceuticals. Users can see the number of article and social media postings that are classified according to any combination of these ten attributes, with this information presented in dynamically generated graphs to facilitate understanding of public reactions to the introduction of new pharmaceuticals.
Users can also perform searches of all articles and tweets mentioning specific words and phrases. Three levels of access were established: one for administrators who can populate the content of the app and categorize it according to the 10 dynamic variables, another level for those that simply view the content and the graphs that analyze it, and another level for limited-access users that can only view articles and tweets but not any graphs or affiliated contact information. The final mobile and web application fulfilled its purpose perfectly by helping MCS Healthcare Public Relations' clients have a thorough understanding of the public's reaction to newly introduced pharmaceuticals through the monitoring and classifying of online media.
